The second Chinese hard-court event of the same category, in Chengdu, went to A. Davidovich Fokina. In the final, he beat H. Hurkacz 6-4 7-6. As in Hangzhou, the champion did not drop a set, but in the second set Hurkacz pushed it to a tiebreak. Both men’s finals of the week went to two sets, and both were tighter than the set score suggests.

Hurkacz climbed from 39th to 32nd in the ATP rankings over the week, adding 200 points. However, in rank.tennis data they are listed as a semifinal at the China Open 2026. His total rose from 1285 to 1485 points.

WTA. Fernandez in Singapore, Birrell in Seoul

The week’s top women’s trophy was decided on the hard courts of Singapore, and it went to L. Fernandez. The final against T. Gibson was a contrast in styles. The first set was almost even and ended 7-5, while Fernandez took the second set to love, 6-0. The final score of 7-5 6-0 shows that after a hard-fought start, her opponent never managed to turn the match around.

The WTA 250 event in Seoul was won by K. Birrell. In the final, she beat M. Joint 6-4 6-2, with both sets going to the winner. Together with Singapore, that makes two hard-court finals in Asia, and in both champions got through without a third set.

The WTA 125 series was the busiest part of the week. It featured both routs and three-set drama. The tightest final came in Ankara. B. Cengiz lost the first set to T. Kostovic 2-6, then levelled the match in the second, 6-4, and edged the decider 7-5. The final score of 2-6 6-4 7-5 made it the biggest comeback of the week among WTA tournaments.

Three sets were needed in Adana too, where L. Jeanjean beat L. Boisson 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4. Jeanjean took the first set in a tiebreak, dropped the second, and closed out the win in the third. This title also stands out in the rankings. According to rank.tennis, Leolia Jeanjean earned 125 points for her Adana victory and moved from 109th to 94th.

The match in Porto was won by M. Timofeeva, who beat R. Brantmeier 7-6(8) 6-2. The first-set tiebreak went beyond the standard seven points and ended 10-8, after which the second set was much calmer. A similar pattern emerged in Tolentino, the only clay-court event among the champions. Y. Grabher beat G. Maristani 7-6(5) 6-2: a tense start followed by a confident finish.

The quickest of the WTA 125 finals was the match in Jingshan. A. Shubladze beat D. Bouzas Maneiro 6-3 6-2, and it was the only final in the series to go without a tiebreak or a third set.

Among the men’s tournaments below ATP level, the week’s data includes the category 125 Challenger in Saint-Tropez. T. Droguet won it, beating A. Mayo 6-3 7-5 in the final. The first set was fairly comfortable, while Mayo stayed in touch until the end in the second.

Doubles. Ten pairs with trophies

The doubles draws added to the week’s picture at every championship event. In Singapore, the title in doubles went to E. Routliffe and A. Sutjiadi, while in Seoul the duo of C. Haocing and W. Fanxian took the title. On the men’s side in China, L. Johnson and Y. Zielinski stood out in Chengdu, as did F. Cabral and D. Tracy in Hangzhou.

The doubles results at the WTA 125 events look like this. In Ankara, V. Falkowska and A. Smith won, in Porto F. Jorge and M. Jorge prevailed, and in Tolentino E. Gorgodze and D. Papamichail came out on top. In Adana, the title went to A. Moratelli and V. Valdmannova, while in Jingshan M. Brooks and A. Rajecki were the best. At the Challenger in Saint-Tropez, the doubles trophy was claimed by J. Paul and M. Vocel.

Rankings. Shanghai 2025 burns off before Shanghai 2026

The main ATP table story is tied to last year’s Shanghai, with points from that event starting to drop off. According to rank.tennis, the biggest fall came for Arthur Rinderknech: from 33rd to 62nd, down 29 places. He lost 650 points for reaching the Shanghai 2025 final, and his total dropped from 1520 to 870. Valentin Vacherot lost 1020 points for last year’s Shanghai title. Two hundred points for a semifinal at the Japan Open 2026 did not make up the difference, and he fell from 18th to 34th, from 2250 to 1430 points. Zizou Bergs lost 200 points for reaching the Shanghai 2025 quarterfinals and slipped from 38th to 46th, with his total at 1120 points.

Those moving up in the ATP were the players picking up points in Tokyo and Beijing. Jaume Munar earned 225 points for reaching the semifinal at the Japan Open 2026, lost 100 for last year’s Shanghai, and climbed from 64th to 52nd, exactly to 1000 points. Kyrian Jacquet added 100 points for his Tokyo quarterfinal and moved from 86th to 74th. Alex Molcan moved from 96th to 82nd with 75 points for the round of 16 at the China Open 2026. Yunchaokete Bu earned 50 points for the same stage in Beijing and broke into the top 100, moving from 104th to 94th.

In the women’s rankings, the biggest drop came for Katerina Siniakova: from 55th to 86th, down 31 places. She lost 245 points for reaching the Wuhan 2025 quarterfinals, and her total fell from 1075 to 855. Shuai Zhang lost 20 places, falling from 57th to 77th. Mccartney Kessler moved from 77th to 95th, Maya Joint from 75th to 92nd, and Katie Volynets from 74th to 87th. All three had points removed from last year’s Beijing, Wuhan or Suzhou.

The best rise among the WTA movers came from Xinyi Kraus: plus 21 places, from 95th to 74th, thanks to 120 points for reaching the round of 16 in Beijing. Tatjana Maria climbed from 84th to 71st, with the main boost coming from 100 points for the title at the W100 tournament in Templeton. Leolia Jeanjean’s surge after winning in Adana was already mentioned above.

The ITF junior rankings showed the biggest jumps among the boys. Samim Filiz rose from 138th to 94th, up 44 places. Koki Nara moved from 73rd to 30th, and his total grew from 849,25 to 1291 points. Cooper Coz added 30 places and climbed from 95th to 65th. Among the girls, Jahnie Van Zyl moved up from 107th to 74th. Savva Rybkin fell from 55th to 87th, and Iva Marinkovic from 62nd to 93rd.

What’s next. Beijing, Tokyo, Shanghai

Shanghai is the one to watch above all. Rinderknech and Vacherot have already lost points for last year’s final and title, so any result they produce there will count as a gain. At a lower level, the ITF tournament in Quinta do Lago with $60,000 in prize money runs from 28 September to 5 October. From 5 to 11 October, WTA 125 events will be held in Samsun and Suzhou, each offering $115,000, along with the clay-court Challenger 75 in Braga with a purse of €98,000. The week’s results are based on api.tennis data, and the ranking movements are based on rank.tennis.
