Tiebreak decider

The opening set went to Sakamoto, with the Japanese player taking it in a tiebreak, 7-6. Jacquet responded in the second set, taking it 4-6 from Sakamoto's point of view, and sent the match into a deciding set.

In the final set, the two players were again separated by a tiebreak. Sakamoto closed out the set 7-6: the lead he had gained at the start of the match was erased by Jacquet, but the decider belonged to the Japanese player.

According to api.tennis, in the previous qualifying round Sakamoto beat Seongchan Hong, 6-3 7-5. Jacquet came into this match after defeating Zhang Tianhui, 6-2 7-6. Both advanced through the opening round without dropping a set, and their head-to-head meeting required a deciding set.
