Simakin won the opening set, and in the second his advantage in games became more noticeable: Te won fewer games than in the first set.
In the previous round, Simakin had to come back after losing the opening set against Luca Pavlovic. That match ended 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. This time, the Russian moved on without dropping a set.
Te also opened qualifying with a win in a deciding set: in his match with Adam Walton, he lost the first set but turned the match around: 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
