Karen Khachanov beat Arthur Fery in the round of 64 at the Rolex Shanghai Masters in Shanghai, 7-6(6), 6-7(5), 7-6(2). The win sent Khachanov into the next round of the ATP Masters 1000 event, api.tennis reports.
Decided in the deciding set
Khachanov took the opening set, 7-6(6). But he was unable to build on that advantage in the next set: Fery won it 7-6(5) to level the match.
The opponents were separated by another tiebreak in the final set. Khachanov wrapped it up 7-6(2), with that set earning him the match win.
Before facing Khachanov, Fery beat Marin Cilic in Shanghai. He won 7-6, 6-1 in the round of 128, but could not continue his run in the draw.
