Zizou Bergs of Belgium defeated 32nd seed Ignacio Buse of Peru 6-0, 6-3 in the round of 64 at the ATP Masters 1000 Rolex Shanghai Masters. The straight-sets win sent Bergs through to the round of 32 at the hardcourt tournament in Shanghai, which carries a prize fund of 11.2 million dollars, api.tennis reports.

A Bagel Set Followed by a Confident Finish

The first set was one-sided, with Bergs winning it 6-0 and not allowing his opponent to take a single game. In the second set, Buse managed to get into the contest and claimed three games, but the Belgian closed out the match 6-3, without dropping a set.

The result looks especially significant given the rankings: according to rank.tennis, Bergs sits at number 44 with 1,170 points, while Buse is ranked 35th with 1,432 points. The seeded opponent proved weaker than the Belgian, who arrived at the tournament unseeded.

Bergs has yet to drop a set in Shanghai. In the round of 128 he defeated Vit Kopriva 6-3, 6-1, and he has now beaten Buse as well. This marks a notable turnaround after two consecutive defeats: in Davis Cup qualifying the Belgian lost to Yurii Rodionov (6-7, 3-6), and at the Japan Open he fell to Jiri Lehecka in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6. For Buse, the singles setback in Shanghai continued an uneven stretch; shortly before that, at the China Open, he had lost to Quentin Halys 1-6, 6-7.
