Coco Gauff of the United States defeated Colombia’s Camila Osorio in the round of 64 at the WTA 1000 event in Beijing, 7:6(4), 4:6, 6:2, and moved into the next round. Gauff is seeded third at the tournament. According to rank.tennis, she is No. 4 in the rankings with 5864 points. Unseeded Osorio is No. 68 with 938 points. The tournament is being played on hard courts, with a prize purse of $9.4 million.

The first set went to a tiebreak, and Gauff took it: 7:6(4). Osorio responded by winning the second set 6:4 to level the match. Gauff took the third set 6:2 and closed out the match 2:1 in sets, api.tennis reports.

Road to the match and head-to-head

Osorio began the Beijing tournament in the round of 128, where she defeated Lanlana Tararudee 6:3, 6:3. That win snapped a losing streak: before Beijing, the Colombian fell to Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open (2:6, 4:6), Ann Li in Monterrey (1:6, 2:6) and Taylor Townsend in Cincinnati (6:3, 3:6, 3:6).

For Gauff, this was her first match since the US Open, where she reached the semifinals and lost to Elena Rybakina 6:3, 4:6, 4:6. On the way to the semifinals, the American defeated Cristina Bucșa 6:3, 6:4 and Iva Jovic 6:1, 6:4. The head-to-head now stands at 1:0 in Gauff’s favor.
